There's a trend of decluttering the home. Marie Kondo has a book about it.
When we did this in our own apartment, it felt like removing stuff and organizing our physical space had an impact on how we felt and how we thought.
Things were more clear. There was more space for creativity.
It's the same thing in your mind with the content you consume, the ideas you allow into your head.
Sometimes you can't even control it.
Something you hear on the radio. An ad you see on TV. Billboards you see when you're in the car. Logos on packaged food in your pantry.
If you have all these ideas cluttering your mind, there's less space for creativity.
You still need some input. You have to have some raw material to create from.
But if you have too much, all different styles and vibes and feelings and genres, it's just a cluttered, chaotic mess.
If you're intentional about adding certain items to your consciousness that align with a creative project or vision, you'll make more direct progress toward a creative outcome.
This is very good stuff. My main goal theme for this year (i'm a goal nerd) has been to do less things, but with greater consequence. This needs to include the things we allow inside our minds.
