It's the surrounding environment, the sound, how you're feeling, who you're with. The biggest mistake is thinking you can wait and write it down later from memory. It won't be the same.

That idea... once I have it, it usually has a really short lifespan!
Same. I've been noticing though that sometimes my good ideas come back. I'll lose it for a few days or weeks and then it will pop up again.
Believe it or not, sometimes this happens to me for years at a time. I'll forget an idea I had for something, then a few years will pass....
